After spending 5 years in a storage unit, I finally received my great, great grandmothers table Sunday afternoon. Yesterday, i decided to give it a little TLC.
Armed with a piece of steel wool and not much of a clue, I set to work on the legs.
Shiny!
Rusty hands
Next was the table top
Five years of crud gone. A dirty cloth in it’s place.
The table was finished! Now to take it to it’s new home. Pride of place in my bedroom, as my sewing table!
wow you did an amazing job š There is a song called The Table by a british band The Beautiful South found it playing in my head while reading your post xx
Thanks so much! I will have to look up that song, I haven’t hear it before. Thanks for stopping by!
You did a fantastic job on those legs. I bet it was a wonderful feeling breathing life into the old table.
Thanks you, it felt great to restore it to some of it’s former glory. Hopefully it will last another lifetime!
Now that is determination and commitment – so nice to have as an heirloom though š
thanks, once I started I couldn’t stop myself until I saw those legs shining!
Wow, that is some commitment getting the legs so shiny! Enjoy your new sewing spot!

Thanks so much, it was amazing watching the rust come away to reveal the beautiful shiny legs underneath. The table is the perfect height for me to sit at too!
Oh good for you! Some retro gorgeousness with family connections to boot. Good job!
thank you! It is such a great table, was a shame to see it in such a state
Fantastic job sweets!! Nanna Gunn would be so happy to see what you have done. Might want to hit the legs with some oil or something similat to guard against the rust coming back. Glad to see you put the table to such good use. May it server you well š XXXXX
Thanks Mum! I’m glad you like it, I was thinking the same thing re: oil or some sort of sealer to prevent it rusting so badly again. I might check out Bunnings this week, maybe get a steel brush or some sandpaper to get the last few bits off that the wool couldn’t get. I was worried it would be too big, but it’s perfect! I can cut on one side and sew on the other, without having to move the machine out the way! And when I want to do studying, there’s room for my laptop and all books/writing stuff!
Oh a sewing table! That right there is the dream š
so much nicer than trying to use the round dining table š
